Golden Pine Cone Award

Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch shared in a distinguished award for their collaborative efforts toward the implementation of the Vital Community Act, a section of Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009.

The Golden Pine Cone Award recognized the contributions of Carson City, Bureau of Land Management, Sierra Front District; Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch; and U.S. Forest Service, and the Carson Ranger District’s collaborative efforts toward the implementation of the Vital Community Act, a section of Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009.

Bird Walk and Historic Talk Saturday, September 10

On Saturday, September 10th, beginning at 7:30 AM; join Nancy Santos for a easy, walk around the fields of Silver Saddle Ranch to identify which different bird species are around. It is the beginning of the Fall migration period, so there may be some non-native species to identify. Birders of all levels are welcome. Nancy especially enjoys teaching novice bird watchers how to identify the bird species they will view on the trip. Please RSVP with Nancy at 884-1570 or nancyfossr@att.net. Meet at the Red House at 7:30 AM.

At 9:00 AM, join Mike Drews for a tour of historic buildings and sites at the Silver Saddle Ranch. Archaeological sites include an early 1900s mining camp and remains of a ditch tenders house associated with operation of the Mexican Ditch during the 1880s. Ranch structures and associated features reflect the daily life and architecture associated with a working ranch between 1920 and 1960. Please RSVP with Mike at 560-5074 or archeomike@aol.com. Meet at the Red House at 9:00 AM.

After the tours there will be some snacks in the Red House provided by the Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch.

The annual general meeting of the Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch will be held after the brunch.

New members are welcome to join Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch and participate in supporting the preservation of the Ranch and its cultural, historical, and natural resources. Membership is $15 for an individual, $25 for a family.
